Dept of English and The 2026 René Fortin Essay Contest

The Providence College Department of English invites student scholars Class of 2026, 2027 and 2028 to submit papers for The 2026 René Fortin Essay Contest.

To qualify, you must be a sophomore, a junior, or a senior. Please submit one argument-based paper of seven to twenty pages written for a course in the Providence College English Department.

E-mail your submission to Ana Ramón-Foote, aramonfo@providence.edu, the English Department Administrative Coordinator. Her office is located in the Ruane Center for the Humanities, LL37.

Entries will be read anonymously, so in the body of your e-mail please indicate your name, class year, phone number, e-mail address, and the course for which you wrote your paper. Attach a clean copy of your paper to the e-mail as a PDF. Please do not put your name or any other personal information on the paper.

Winners will receive a monetary prize!

The deadline for submission is no later than 12:00 noon on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2026
