Professor Ashley Brown will be speaking about the tennis legend, Althea Gibson, perhaps the most famous Black sportswoman of the mid-twentieth century. She recently wrote an award-winning biography of Gibson, setting her life against the background of the Great Migration, Jim Crow racism, the integration of American sports, the Civil Rights movement, the Cold War, and second wave feminism.
