This interactive lecture explores how black women musicians, such as Fannie Lou Hamer, Nina Simone, Mavis Staples and Roberta Flack advanced the practice of freedom singing as a means of advocating social change and mass-mobilizing communities during the height of the mid-century black civil rights movement.

Apply to the Minor in Communication
The Program in Communication at Providence College is accepting applications to the minor from members of the classes of 2027 and 2028. Applications are due Friday, September 20, 2024. Students will be notified of acceptances by October 18. Only students who have already declared a major are eligible to apply to the Communication minor. In addition, Juniors and Seniors are not eligible to apply. The application process will re-open in January 2025.
