Invitation to Lecture/Performance on 9/23 – Phi Beta Kappa Scholar Prof. Kernodle – Black Women Musicians and the Civil Rights Movement

This interactive lecture explores how black women musicians, such as Fannie Lou Hamer, Nina Simone, Mavis Staples and Roberta Flack advanced the practice of freedom singing as a means of advocating social change and mass-mobilizing communities during the height of the mid-century black civil rights movement.
