PC Morning Mail

LET’S TALK!!!-On Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30pm

Let’s Talk is a program that provides easy access to informal, confidential, drop-in, and one-time brief conversations/informational meetings. Let’s talk is not formal counseling/therapy and is not meant to be accessed regularly. Nor is it meant to be the first appointment to begin counseling for ongoing concerns/issues. Appointments are limited to 15 minutes.
Students can schedule the appointments by signing up through a link that will be active the same day of the Let’s Talk conversations. The counselor will listen closely to your concerns and suggestions for resources. Although Let’s Talk counselors are professionals, Let’s Talk is not a substitute for Psychotherapy/ Counseling.
Let’s Talk conversations are not part of any releasable records since you are not considered to be a client at the Personal Counseling Center (PCC). The Let’s Talk counselor can help you determine whether formal counseling at the PCC would be useful for you and, if appropriate, assist you in scheduling an appointment at that time.

Who should visit Let’s Talk?
Let’s Talk is the best fit for the following people:
1. students who are not sure about counseling and wonder what it’s like to talk with a counselor/clinician or learning about what the services are on campus;
2. students who are curious if the concerns they would like to speak about is appropriate for counseling;
3. students who have a concern about a friend and are looking for resources.

Let’s Talk visits are confidential.
Conversations with Let’s Talk counselors are confidential, with a few exceptions. Counselors need to share information in an emergency when you present an imminent threat of harm to yourself or others, when a minor, elderly person, or someone otherwise incapacitated and unable to act on his/her own behalf is being abused or at high risk of abuse, and if the information is required by a court subpoena or court order.

This program is partly modeled on the “Let’s Talk” program at Cornell University. We are grateful for them to provide us with the name and idea; some of the material on their website has been duplicated here with permission.
