Please join the American Studies program, on Thursday, October 15th from 5-6pm in McPhail’s Pub, for the inaugural session of Profs Unplugged, a year-long series of casual one-on-one interviews between American Studies program director Dr. Cristina Rodriguez and American Studies Professors at PC from various departments, where we will talk about their origin stories, their research interests, and their insights into both their discipline and American culture writ large.
Our first guest is History and Classics Professor Edward Andrews.
Dr. Andrews is a historian who specializes in issues related to race, religion, and slavery in early America and the broader Atlantic world. His first book, Native Apostles: Black and Indian Missionaries in the British Atlantic World (Harvard University Press, 2013) sheds light on the crucial and untold role of Native Americans, Africans, and black slaves in Protestant missionary work in the early colonial period. His most recent book, Newport Gardner’s Anthem: A Story of Slavery, Struggle, and Survival in Early America (Cornell University Press, 2025), explores the remarkable life of an incredibly important but forgotten Black leader in early New England.
Please see the flyer.
See you there!
