Position Descriptions for Senior Ring Weekend Core
Ring Weekend Core is traditionally made up of 10 to 12 members. These members are chosen by an application/interview process. The Core consists of one or two Core Chair (s) plus each of the following positions: Ring Design/Ring Premiere (2), Special Events Night (2), Formal Night (2), Mass and Reception (1), Marketing (1), and Business Manager (1). Below you will find a brief description of the duties and responsibilities of each Core position. Unfortunately, due to the timeline and demand of these positions, those studying abroad at any point during the junior year may not be able to serve on the core.

CORE CHAIR(S):  This member leads the entire Core throughout the Ring Weekend process.  Facilitating Core meetings, attending outside meetings with administration and ring representatives, and ensuring the Core is planning their events in a timely manner are among the most important duties of Core Chair.  This member steers the Core in the direction in which it moves and this figure usually works very closely with SEAL and stays in-tune with the progress of each Core member and their responsibilities.  The chair also works closely with the SEAL to coordinate tickets sales and all of the details associated with sales.

RING DESIGN/PREMIERE: The main responsibilities of Ring Design/Premiere positions are assisting with the selection of the ring company through which you will design and purchase your rings. Assisting with the coordination of ring company proposal presentations is among the first duties that these members must carry out, soon to be followed by designing the class ring.  These members work closely with the ring representative of the company chosen by the Core as well as the staff in SEAL. Additionally they carry out this communication all throughout ring sales, which typically lasts up until the mass. Ring Premiere consists of planning an event featuring the unveiling the ring design to the class. There are two Premieres (one fall semester, one spring semester), where there is food, entertainment, raffles and a theme that are created and organized for this event. These members also assist the Mass chair as needed in coordinating the post mass reception and ring story.

MASS/RECEPTION: This member is responsible for creating the Ring Story, making mass reservations, and helping coordinate portions of the mass (readings, music, decorations) as well as planning the reception after mass (food, entertainment). These members work closely with Campus Ministry and the Dominican community for the details of the mass and ring distribution prior to mass.  Main responsibilities include ordering all of the food as well as designing and promoting the mass/reception.

SPECIAL EVENTS NIGHT: Committee prepares an evening of dancing and entertainment for the Senior Class members and their dates. The committee must select the decor, caterer, and entertainment portion of the evening. This requires research on options for food within a specific price range, working with the agent to select a performer, and coordinating all individuals involved with putting on the event. It is important to be timely and efficient in performing all tasks ahead of time so that Ring Weekend can have the best options available.

FORMAL NIGHT: The main duties for planning Ring Weekend formal night include: finding a venue for the evening, corresponding with a decorator (as needed), booking entertainment for the night, designing a menu for the night, picking a tuxedo company for the night, and working with florists for center pieces. It is a big responsibility that requires a lot of time. In order to be successful in planning this event you have to be responsible, devoted, and creative.

MARKETING: The Marketing Chair is responsible for all aspects of marketing that is required by the Core. Athis includes getting the word  out about the ring premieres, ring sales, ticket sales, and the main Senior Ring Weekend events. Additionally, the Marketing chair is responsible for running the 2027 Core’s social media accounts. This position requires a creative and dependable individual.

BUSINESS MANAGER/LOGISTICS: The business manager and logistics chair is responsible for maintaining all aspects of the budget for SRW. They will work very closely with the class treasurer and SEAL. Additionally, they will coordinate many of the logistics of the weekend including room reservations, ordering supplies, etc.

All core members will be required to assist with the Class of 2027 core Senior Ring Weekend. This is a great way to see all the logistics of the weekend and have on the ground brainstorming for your own Senior Ring Weekend. Those who are selected to serve on the core also get a free student ticket to their Senior Ring Weekend.
