Windows 11 is Coming

Windows 11 is coming soon to a computer near you! In fact, it might be coming to your computer!

Microsoft will be discontinuing support for Windows 10 next October. This means that computers running Windows 10 will stop receiving critical security updates. IT has been busy working on a plan to migrate everyone to Windows 11. We understand there is often some anxiety around switching to something newer. Have no fear. Windows 11 is an easy switch from Windows 10 with few differences.

Part of the process of switching to Windows 11 means that some computer hardware on campus must be retired as it is not compatible with Windows 11. This includes some of the older hardware on campus – computers that were purchased more than about 7 years ago. If you suspect that your computer might be one of these or you’d like IT to take an inventory of your department’s computers, please contact the Helpdesk at helpdesk@providence.edu. We can assist with determining a proper upgrade path.

Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for messaging regarding the switch to Windows 11!
