The IT Department is making changes to the Windows computers in classrooms and computer labs for the Fall 2023 semester. We are changing the way the software is deployed and the computers are maintained. These changes will improve security as well as allow more flexibility for application updates. The changes may, unfortunately, also affect instruction in these spaces.
The most significant change is that users will no longer be local administrators on the individual computers. If you have ever installed software during class for your or your students’ use, you will no longer be able to do so.
While the computers will remain on Windows 10 and the software you are used to having available will still be available, we ask that you test this new image prior to the fall semester to ensure that the software and hardware you require for your classes still works. The sooner we learn of any issues, the more time we have to make necessary adjustments.
The new image is currently installed on all Windows computers on the second floor of the Library, including the computer lab in room 233, as well as in the computer lab in Ryan 107. Computers with this new image will have a green login screen. We anticipate installing this new image on all computers immediately following the end of the current semester so that you can test in more places.
