The IT Department made some changes to the Windows computers in teaching spaces and the general use computer clusters on campus. There are two significant changes that faculty and students will noticed:
- Users will no longer be local administrators on the computer, meaning you will not have the ability to install software “on the fly” during class.
- User data will not be preserved from use-to-use, meaning any data will need to be saved to OneDrive or external media, such as a USB flash drive.
We recommend faculty teaching with the computers in the classrooms or utilizing our computer labs test the new configuration, which is denoted by a green login screen. While we are actively pushing out the new configuration to all our classrooms, you can visit the following locations to test:
- Accinno 100, 101, and 202
- Howley 321 and 322
- All Ryan classrooms and computer labs
- All Harkins classrooms
- All Feinstein classrooms
- All public computers in the Library on the first and second floors, as well as Library 233
Requests for additional software and reports of any issues with the new configuration should be sent to the Helpdesk at helpdesk@providence.edu or 401-865-HELP (4357).
