Replacing your phone? You’ll need to update MFA settings.

The holidays are a big time for folks to replace their cell phones. This also means that you might lose your ability to access your Providence College accounts. Even if you copy all data and settings from your old phone to your new phone, Microsoft Authenticator will not work on the new phone until it is properly configured with Microsoft.

If you still have access to your old phone, you can add your new phone as a method. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Visit your security settings at Microsoft and authenticate as required. (this is easiest from a computer)
  2. Click “Add sign-in method.”
  3. From the “Choose a method” drop down, select Authenticator app.
  4. Click Add and follow the prompts to setup Authenticator. At this point, any step that requires your phone will be performed on your new phone.

If you do not have access to your old phone, you will need to contact the Helpdesk to reset your settings.
